JOB GRADE:

A. JOB SUMMARY:  Describe the Purpose of this job in 2-3 Sentences.  

Responsible for performing preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on veneer lathe machines and related production equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. The role supports production by minimizing equipment downtime and maintaining machine performance.

B. KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Perform preventive maintenance on veneer lathe machines and related equipment according to maintenance schedules.

-Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical problems and carry out repairs.

-Respond promptly to machine breakdowns to minimize production downtime.

-Inspect machine components and replace worn or damaged parts.

-Maintain maintenance records and report equipment issues to the supervisor.

-Ensure proper use of tools, equipment, and spare parts.

-Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area.

C. Job Scope – Group/Business Division or Department Responsibilities (list or explain)

-Maintain veneer lathe machines and supporting production equipment.
-Support production operations by ensuring machines operate efficiently.
-Assist with equipment installation, testing, and commissioning.
-Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance.
-Maintain equipment according to company standards and safety requirements.

D. COMMUNICATION COMPLEXITIES:  Indicate the level, purpose and complexity of the communications inside and outside the organization. - Communicate with Production, Quality Control, Warehouse, and Engineering teams regarding machine conditions and repair schedules.

- Coordinate with Maintenance Supervisor for work planning and technical support.

- Work with equipment suppliers or external technicians when required.

E. ANALYSIS: Describe the types of problems this job must solve to perform successfully.  Is the process well defined, or must this job develop new approaches to solve these problems?

Analyze machine failures and identify the root causes of mechanical or electrical problems. Recommend corrective actions to prevent recurring breakdowns and improve machine performance.

F. JUDGMENT AND DECISION MAKING: Describe the nature and impact of decisions required in this job.  Distinguish between recommendations made to someone else and decisions where this job has final authority.  Indicate involvement (if any) with Business Division or Department development and execution.

- Determine appropriate repair methods during maintenance activities.

- Decide whether equipment is safe to operate after repairs.

- Escalate major equipment failures or technical issues to the Maintenance Supervisor.

- Recommend replacement of damaged components when necessary.

G. INNOVATION: Indicate this job's responsibility for new processes, systems, or products.

- Suggest improvements to maintenance procedures.

- Recommend methods to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.

- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production efficiency.

H. The position works independently and as part of the maintenance team under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Manager.

-Minimum 2–5 years of maintenance experience in veneer, plywood, wood processing, or manufacturing industries.

-Experience maintaining veneer lathe machines or similar industrial equipment is preferred.

-Familiarity with hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical systems.

- Experience in wood processing or plywood manufacturing.

- Welding and fabrication skills are an advantage.

- Knowledge of PLC-controlled equipment is preferred.

- Ability to use measuring instruments and maintenance tools.

- Factory environment with exposure to noise, dust, heat, and moving machinery.

- Frequent standing, lifting, climbing, and working around industrial equipment.

- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.

- May be required to work overtime during machine breakdowns or maintenance shutdowns.
