Job Description:
JOB SUMMARY

The Smart System Designer is responsible for the planning, design, and coordination of smart building technologies within construction projects. This includes building management systems (BMS), lighting control, audio-visual (AV), Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, energy management, and the integration of ELV/security systems into a unified platform. The role ensures that smart systems are effectively designed, documented, and coordinated with other disciplines, delivering innovative, efficient, and sustainable building solutions
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Design & Documentation
- Develop system designs for BMS, lighting control, AV, IoT, and other smart building solutions.
- Integrate ELV/security systems (CCTV, access control, PA/broadcast, etc.) into overall smart platforms.
- Prepare technical drawings, schematics, and construction documents using AutoCAD, Revit, or BIM.
- Produce bills of quantities (BOQ), technical specifications, and design reports for tendering and procurement.
Coordination & Compliance
- Coordinate designs with architectural, structural, and MEP teams to ensure seamless integration.
- Participate in design coordination and project progress meetings.
- Ensure all smart system designs comply with local building codes, international standards, and sustainability requirements (e.g., LEED, WELL).
Project Support
- Provide technical support during installation, testing, commissioning, and handover of smart systems.
- Review vendor/shop drawings and ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Resolve site-related technical issues and support construction teams.
Innovation & Development
- Research and recommend emerging technologies, IoT solutions, and best practices for smart building design.
- Advise clients and project stakeholders on innovative smart solutions to enhance building efficiency, safety, and user experience.
- Support digital transformation initiatives such as BIM integration, cloud-based monitoring, and AI-driven automation.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
(Education, Qualification/Skills/Behavior, and Related Experiences.)
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, IT/Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
- 37 years of experience in smart building system design, ELV/BMS projects, or building automation.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary construction environments.
- Certifications in smart system platforms (e.g., KNX, Lutron, Crestron, Niagara, etc.) preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of smart building technologies (BMS, lighting control, AV, IoT, energy management).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM workflows.
- Understanding of communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus, KNX, Zigbee, MQTT, etc.).
- Familiarity with sustainable building standards and energy-efficient design.- Ability to produce clear, accurate construction/shop drawings.
Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving and innovative thinking.
- Excellent communication skills for cross-disciplinary coordination.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
- Client-oriented, proactive, and detail-focused.
